Dear Ivy Bound Academy Schools Community:
The Board of Directors and our District leadership are committed to ensuring the health and safety of our entire Ivy Bound Academy community. Based on recommendations from state and local health and education authorities and in alignment with LAUSD, we have made a decision to extend remote learning through the end of the 2019-20 school year.
We are considering many options for our 8th grade graduation and end of year celebrations. We recognize the importance of these momentous life events, especially for our 8th graders, and we will work closely with our students, staff, and families to make these experiences as meaningful as possible for our amazing students.
We remain committed to ensuring our students maintain continuity of education and our highest-need families receive healthy meals and access to necessities while our schools are closed. We will continue to keep our community informed as we learn new information and appreciate your support and patience as we navigate this unique situation together. Here are a few of the key updates.
1) Grab and Go Meal stations. You no longer need to take your child to the pick up station to receive food. We are so glad this change took place and now students can stay safe at home while being able to receive meals. 2) Ivy Bound Academy will continue online learning this week. We know online learning is an adjustment for all parties involved and will take adjusting each week to create a program both students, parents, and teachers are bought into. Here are some key features of online learning you need to know.
-Each teacher has a prerecorded lecture posted on google classroom each week. This will help explain the material, and the assignments posted.
-Teachers will be posting all due assignments on google classroom.
-Teachers are available live each week for students to receive that in person interaction and ask any questions they may have.
3) New Changes to know about
-Lexia is being incorporated to help students with their grammar and reading comprehension skills at their personal level. This will be embedded in the computers curriculum.
-Block Schedule. We understand that juggling the schedule, routine, and assignments of 8 classes has been stressful. And without the bell schedule students seem lost on how to time manage it all. With this, we have created a block schedule. This means students should only be working on 4 classes a day. The assignments will be all on one agenda so students no longer have to click around.
4) LAUSD has opened a phone hotline for all students, families and teachers to help manage fear, anxiety and other challenges related to CoVID-19. The phone hotline – 213-241-3840 – will be open 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays, staffed by counselors and mental health professionals to provide support in both English and Spanish. Teachers can also call and get advice on how to connect their students to services. Questions can also be sent to mentalhealth@lausd.net.

2) Ivy Bound Academy continuará aprendiendo en línea esta semana. Dear Ivy Bound Academy Schools Family,
The impacts of the coronavirus are touching every aspect of our lives and forcing all of us to find creative ways to adapt to this unprecedented situation. We know the disruption in normal school operations has created many issues and uncertainties – from childcare and meals to promotion plans and academic preparedness. This information will answer some of your most pressing questions as best we can.
When will school reopen?
Ivy Bound Academy Schools will be keeping our schools closed at least through Friday, May 1, 2020. Our new target date to reopen is Monday, May 4, 2020. As you know, things are changing daily, so there is the potential that the closures could be extended beyond May 1, 2020. Last Week, California Governor Gavin Newsom advised parents to prepare for the possibility that schools may be closed through the summer break. While that could indeed happen, we remain hopeful that conditions will improve enough to allow us to reopen before the end of the school year. Guidance from the Los Angeles County Office of Education and LAUSD are that schools be closed through Friday, May 1, 2020 at this time.
Will promotion ceremonies be held?
Like all of you, we want nothing more than to honor our students for their accomplishments. The thought of promotions ceremonies being cancelled is heartbreaking, and we will do all we can to make them happen. In the event that in-person ceremonies are not possible due to public health concerns, we will explore alternative ways to recognize our students for their achievements.
Will remote learning be provided for students at home?
Students and families will be able to continue to connect with their teacher(s) and access learning activities through Ivy Bound Academy’s Google Classroom site. Each of your child’s teacher has a Google Classroom site and teachers have been working tirelessly this past week in preparing a robust curriculum for your students including posting to lecture-type videos per week, three classroom assignments per week, and keeping PowerSchool up-to-date for parents and students. Each teacher will also be posting a weekly agenda of the week’s work. We also encourage students and families to take advantage of TV-based at-home
learning opportunities provided by Southern California PBS stations for middle school students. Are students required to participate in remote learning?
Students are expected to participate. We understand some families may have situations that make participation difficult or impossible and we are happy to discuss those situations on a case-by-case basis. We will also be reaching out to each family this week by phone. If you have any barriers to learning, please let us know then an/or through IT@ivybnd.com.
Will state CAASPP testing take place?
The state CAASPP testing in Mathematics, English Language Arts, and Science has been canceled for the current school year and will not take place. Additionally, testing for English Learners (called ELPAC) will also not be taking place this school year.
Will school meals continue to be provided?
Yes. Ivy Bound Academy Schools students (and all students ages 5-18 at any school) will continue to be provided “Grab and Go” meals at following locations:

There is no charge for these “Grab and Go” means and no registration or ID requirements. Just drive/show up. You must bring your child(ren) with you to these locations.

We are writing today to provide an update on the CoVID-19 pandemic and IBA Distance Learning. Please read the following information carefully and completely:

Online Learning: This week the teachers will be preparing their classes for a more robust online learning environment, which will begin on Monday, March 23 through the G-Suite Google learning environment: https://classroom.google.com
Already, teachers have prepared and posted supplemental review materials and assignments that are available for students today through the Google environment. Your child’s teacher will be reaching out to your child directly through their school-issued e-email account.
Online Learning Hours: Students are able to access their coursework beginning at 8:10AM daily Monday-Friday. Students are expected to log into Google Classroom daily Monday-Friday, starting March 23. To do so, please visit: https://classroom.google.com
This week, please follow the instructions you receive from your teachers.
Online Learning Support: IBA will provide tech support for Google Classroom troubleshooting and/or online learning resource access issues. To file a ticket, please email IT@ivybnd.com
Chromebook Use: Families that do not have a computer for their child to use to access online learning may check out a Chromebook from Ivy Bound Academy Schools. These are the same Chromebooks that your child uses in class every day. If you need to pick up a Chromebook for use at home, it must be checked out by the parent in person on Wednesday, March 18 from 8:00am to Noon at either the Sherman Oaks or Northridge campus. If you already have a computer for your child’s use at home, there is no need to check out a Chromebook from the school. There will be no charge to use a Chromebook at home. Please email your student’s name, grade and campus to IT@ivybnd.com to reserve a Chromebook.
Deep Cleaning & Sanitation: During this closure, both campuses of Ivy Bound Academy Schools will be deep cleaned and sanitized inside and out, top to bottom. This will include every surface on campus, as well as the Chromebooks, instructional materials, chairs, tables, etc.
School Schedule: During Online Learning, students are expected to log in to their Google Classrooms daily Monday through Friday to access coursework and receive their learning outcomes, which includes resource materials, assignments, and submission dates. There will be set teacher office hours where teachers will monitor their emails and students can expect a reply to their inquiries in short order. Please note that students do not need to log in to their Google Classrooms at the exact time their class traditionally meets, but instead at some point during that school day. The only time students could log on at a specific time is during the teacher office hours (more information will be coming on this by the end of this week).
Additionally, Ivy Bound Academy Schools wants to provide our families with the following information:
District Resource Center Family Access
Due to the CoVID-19 pandemic, LAUSD will open and operate 40 Family Resource Centers beginning Wednesday, March 18.
- Resource Centers will be open to ALL STUDENTS: District, Charter, and Private Schools. Locations to be provided. More info: https://achieve.lausd.net/latestnews
- Resource Centers will be staffed M-F from 6 AM-6 PM. Students “will be able to have a warm meal, engage with their peers, and pursue their different studies,” according to LAUSD Superintendent Beutner.
Free/Reduced Cost Home Internet Service
As a result of the CoVID-19 outbreak, beginning Monday, March 16, Charter/Spectrum has committed to the following for 60 days:
- Charter will offer free Spectrum broadband and Wi-Fi access for 60 days to households with K-12 and/or college students who do not already have a Spectrum broadband subscription and at any service level up to 100 Mbps. To enroll, call 1-844-488-8395. Installation fees will be waived for new student households.
- Charter will partner with school districts to ensure local communities are aware of these tools to help students learn remotely.
- Charter will continue to offer Spectrum Internet Assist, high-speed broadband program to eligible low-income households delivering speeds of 30 Mbps.
- Charter will open its Wi-Fi hotspots across our footprint for public use.
- Spectrum does not have data caps or hidden fees.
Americans Connected Pledge
All four of the major United States cellular carriers — AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon — have signed on to the FCC’s Keep Americans Connected Pledge. Under this agreement, carriers have agreed to take the following action for at least the next 60 days:
- Not terminate service to any residential or small business customers because of their inability to pay their bills due to the disruptions caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
- Waive any late fees that any residential or small business customers incur because of their economic circumstances related to the coronavirus pandemic.
- Open its Wi-Fi hotspots to any American who needs them.
Meanwhile, T-Mobile has announced its own set of efforts to help customers stay connected during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Starting immediately, all T-Mobile and Metro by T-Mobile customers will have unlimited smartphone data for the next 60 days. T-Mobile will also “soon” give customers an additional 20GB mobile hotspot services.

Aprendizaje en línea: esta semana los maestros prepararán sus clases para un entorno de aprendizaje en línea más sólido, que comenzará el lunes 23 de marzo a través del entorno de aprendizaje de Google G-Suite: https://classroom.google.com
Ya, los maestros han preparado y publicado materiales de revisión complementarios y tareas que están disponibles para los estudiantes hoy en día a través del entorno de Google. El maestro de su hijo se comunicará con su hijo directamente a través de su cuenta de correo electrónico emitida por la escuela.
Horas de aprendizaje en línea: los estudiantes pueden acceder a sus cursos a partir de las 8:10 a.m. todos los días de lunes a viernes. Dear Ivy Bound Academy Schools Families,
Thank you for your support and understanding as we have been navigating this Coronavirus (CoVID-19) pandemic, which has created uncertainty in our daily lives. IBA has been following the guidance of public health experts on how we can keep everyone safe in the midst of this growing health crisis. It is because of this that the Board of Directors and I have made the decision to close both campuses of Ivy Bound Academy Schools starting Monday, March 16th, through at least March 27th. During this time, we will monitor the current climate in order to proceed with the best option for your child’s education. We have no reported cases of CoVID-19 in or connected with Ivy Bound Academy schools. We thank you for your patience and understanding.
We understand that school closures have significant impacts on our students and families and we hope to restore normal operations as soon as possible. Teachers will be updating their Google Classroom environment, ALEKS, Membean, and Lexia (all of which your student is very familiar with) with supplemental review materials during the shutdown period. If assistance with any of these computer platforms is needed, please email IT@ivybnd.com Your student should check their school-issued email account regularly for updates from their teachers. I am very proud of all of our staff as they continue to work in the best interests of our students. LA County Department of Public Health and LAUSD are reporting:
How many coronavirus cases are there in the Los Angeles area?
Fourteen cases have been identified in Los Angeles County. Three UCLA students in isolation have tested negative for COVID-19, and no one on the UCLA campus has tested positive for COVID-19.
Do any of the existing cases have a connection to our school community?
There is no known connection, at this time, between the individuals with the virus and either Ivy Bound Academy School or any of the LAUSD schools.
Is it safe and appropriate for Ivy Bound Schools to be on a normal schedule?
Yes and as a cautionary measure, we will be determining shorty if any upcoming scheduled field trips off campus will continue to be held. The Sherman Oaks campus field trip to the Dodger game on April 1st has been cancelled already. Health authorities tell us travel increases risk and it’s prudent to limit this where possible.
Additionally, Supplies on Campus:
Ivy Bound Academy has not had any disruption to our food delivery channel and continues to have full breakfast and lunch for students. We also have plenty of supplies of water, toilet paper, towels, and disinfectant cleaners on campus and are not suffering shortages in any of these areas.

Dear Ivy Bound Academy Community, Staff and Families,
Ivy Bound Academy has been closely monitoring the situation with the coronavirus (COVID-19) and stands ready to implement any specific guidance received by the L.A. County Department of Public Health and the Center for Disease Control (CDC). We have no known cases of Coronavirus at Ivy Bound Academy schools. The links below take you to the Los Angeles County Department of Health and the LAUSD webpages that offer an explanation of the virus, the procedures in place to reduce exposure and infection, and further information and resources. Be aware of scams, false news and hoaxes surrounding novel coronavirus. Accurate information, including announcements of new cases in L.A. County, will always be distributed by L.A. County Public Health through press releases, social media, and their website.
To reduce the chances of COVID-19 infection, experts recommend the following preventative measures:
• Frequent and complete hand washing for at least 20 seconds.
• Stop shaking hands with others to reduce the spread of germs.
• Avoid touching ears, nose and mouth.
• Sneeze and cough into a tissue or your sleeve. Wash hands thoroughly and safely throw away used tissues.
• Do not come in close contact with anyone else if you are ill, and do not share eating utensils, toothbrushes, etc. with others.
Though COVID-19 is not influenza, public health authorities also are recommending that, if you have not gotten the flu vaccine this season, getting immunized against flu may keep you and your immune system healthier and better able to resist COVID-19.
Ivy Bound Academy schools has a collaborative working team that is updating detailed plans for operational and instructional support should this virus impact our schools.
